What spreadsheets do well
- They’re free or cheap, and you probably know one already.
- You choose the layout, the columns and the formulas.
- They’re easy to print, share and back up.
Where candle making gets hard in a spreadsheet
A candle is many decisions that depend on each other: the wax decides the wick, the fragrance load decides the oil, and any change means a new burn test. A spreadsheet holds the numbers, but it doesn’t know how they connect. And a burn test happens beside the candle, often with a phone in one hand, where a spreadsheet is hard to use.
Side by side
| Task | Spreadsheet | CandleEasy |
|---|---|---|
| Candle formulas | Any layout you like. You type every number and keep the versions yourself. | Design Studio walks you through vessel, wax, fragrance, wick and process, does the pour math, and files the finished recipe in the Recipe Box. |
| Choosing a wick | You copy wick charts in by hand, one wax at a time. | The Wick Calculator reads published wick charts for your wax and jar width, and places the wicks for you. |
| Blending fragrance oils | A list of oils and percentages. It can’t tell you how two oils will smell together. | The Magic Fragrance Scan reads each oil’s notes from the supplier’s page and suggests a starting ratio before you buy. |
| Burn test records | Hard to fill in on a phone beside a lit candle. | The Testing Lab is made for your phone: a burn timer, a few taps per burn, and photos and a short video of each round. |
| Pricing | Works well if you build it. Labor and selling fees are easy to leave out. | The cost calculator adds labor, waste and overhead, and shows what you keep after your selling fees. |
| Production batches | Possible, with care. | Batch Production gives each batch its own code and keeps your supplier lot numbers. |
What CandleEasy does differently
CandleEasy is software for candle makers, built by one. Each part knows the others: a scan becomes a formula, a formula becomes a tester, a tester’s burns lead to a verdict, and an approved recipe becomes a batch. Take the guided tour to see every module.
CandleEasy is getting ready for launch. In the meantime the free calculators and free guides are open to everyone.
Common questions
Is a spreadsheet good enough for candle making?
For a few candles and one or two formulas, often yes. As your formulas, tests and suppliers grow, a spreadsheet takes more upkeep, and it is awkward to fill in on a phone at the bench.
Do I have to stop using my spreadsheet?
No. Keep it for anything CandleEasy doesn’t cover. CandleEasy focuses on making and testing candles: formulas, wicks, fragrance blends, burn tests, batches and pricing.

Does CandleEasy work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in your phone’s browser, and the Testing Lab was designed for logging a burn one-handed beside the candle.
