What the card tells your customer

The burning basics are the same as any container candle: let the first burn melt the wax to the edge (about one hour for every inch across), burn no more than four hours at a time, trim the wick to ¼ inch, never leave it unattended, keep it away from drafts and at least 12 inches from anything that can burn, keep it out of reach of children and pets, and stop when ½ inch of wax remains.

What is different about coconut wax

Coconut candles often have a lower melt point, so where they are kept matters. The card asks your customer to store the candle in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and heat, and lets them know it may “sweat” a little on hot days.

The same softness matters when you ship. The summer shipping guide covers packing for hot weather.

Why the first burn matters

The National Candle Association explains that if a candle is not burned long enough for the wax to melt from edge to edge, it can form a memory ring and keep tunneling for the rest of its life. Your customer decides how that first burn goes, so the card says it plainly. More in the tunneling guide.

Common questions

How should I store a coconut wax candle?

In a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and heat. Coconut wax often has a lower melt point than other candle waxes.

Why does my coconut candle look wet on hot days?

Coconut candles may “sweat” a little in warm conditions. Keep them somewhere cool.

How long should the first burn of a coconut candle be?

Long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edge — about one hour for every inch across — and never more than four hours at a time.

How short should the wick be?

Trim it to ¼ inch before every burn.
